Kia Ora, I'm Amanda! I live in Auckland, New Zealand. I write about waste minimisation, and my tiny house build. I co-founded the Auckland Library of Tools and I set up NZ's first Community Fridge, a free food fridge which redistributes surplus food in Auckland's CBD.

Been upping my cycle game for the Aotearoa Bike Ch Been upping my cycle game for the Aotearoa Bike Challenge, and because my car is slowly coming to the end of her life (😭). I've been cycling tools between @aucklandlibraryoftools and my tiny house, which has been interesting as my bike doesn't have a basket or panniers. Last week I borrowed the trailer from ALoT, and today I used a detachable basket. Cons of the basket: I can't easily swing my leg over my bike (especially in a dress!), and I have to put my seat up higher than I would like to... Think I might go back to towing the trailer!

I'm planning on buying an ebike with panniers/a basket once I have saved up some moolah. Let me know your ebike reccomendations please!

During lockdown I (re)-joined the sourdough bandwa During lockdown I (re)-joined the sourdough bandwagon. After a few okay loaves, I decided to find a simpler bread. Someone shared this sourdough focaccia recipe from @alexandracooks in The Great Kiwi Lockdown Sourdough Bakeoff group. I can confirm that this bread was not only super simple to make (no hours of folding, shaping and careful transferring needed) but it's super tasty!!!

There's just a small section of the bathroom to do, where my shower and tub will be. I was keen on baby corrugate, but I'm not sure how to seal off the corners. Any other suggestions are appreciated!

Déjà vu? My last Instagram post was of this exac Déjà vu? My last Instagram post was of this exact shelf and toothbrush holder. Unfortunately the holder took a fall yesterday and smashed into bits. I saved what I could and took the opportunity to try a kintsugi repair. I mixed bronze mica powder, which I happen to have recently purchased for some DIY makeup, with Mod Podge and contact cement. I like how it turned out, including the missing bits. It actually worked in our favour as there's now a small drainage hole down the bottom!

I also fixed a pot plant I recently broke, I'll post some pics of that on my stories
The compostable chip bag compost bin strikes again The compostable chip bag compost bin strikes again!
My friend and I had a snack party at her apartment yesterday, I asked if she'd like me to take the conpost home. Of course! I asked for a container or something to borrow, but she one upped me and scooped everything into the @propercrisps compostable chip bag.
The scraps safely lasted the cycle home and everything went into my compost bin, bag and all! I just make sure to cut/rip up the chip bag before composting.
In other news, I cycled all the way in to the city and back yesterday in the killer heat, and I loved it! Hooray for cycle lanes! 🚴‍♀️
