Amanda

Kia Ora, I'm Amanda! I live in Auckland, New Zealand. I write about waste minimisation, and my tiny house build. I co-founded the Auckland Library of Tools and I set up NZ's first Community Fridge, a free food fridge which redistributes surplus food in Auckland's CBD.

This is my version of stockpiling, because this shop will be the last @bin_inn_onehunga shop for a while and by car. I'm going car-free and no longer live walking distance to Binn Inn, so I stocked up on essentials and heavy things.
Also I was completely away with the fairies during my shop because I accidentally got popcorn kernals twice.

After all the building progress over summer, things started to slow down as I got into more technical building territory. I also started a new fulltime job just before lockdown, and have been focused on that and keeping the tool library going.
So along came Pita @3poucarpentry who built my storage stairs and main kitchen counter! He's done such a great job and it's really exciting to see my house finally starting to take shape!

Also apologies this account seems to be a tool #quaxing account now.

It's International Compost Awareness Week. The big It's International Compost Awareness Week. The biggest and easiest way for you to reduce your waste is to start composting!
There's so many options available to suit your needs. Bokashi, worm farm, cold compost, compost bays, chickens, community compost hubs and even commerical compost collections.
If you're wondering what the shiny plastic looking stuff in my compost bin is, it's home compostable packaging from @propercrisps. I've also been composting my paper waste that temporarily wasn't being recycled, although it's back up and running in Auckland now. Give your compost a mix every now and then and top up with some brown leaf litter. I'd also suggest getting a cat and/or a rat trap!
If you want advice on composting check out @thecompostcollective for free workshops, if you wanna share your compost check out @sharewaste and if you want to compost without the effort of composting then hit up my mates at @wecompost.

If you spotted a tiny house on the Harbour Bridge and motorway today, that was probably Earnie.

The last photo is my new spot, nestled in the bush right by the beach.
